General Learner Outcomes (GLOs)

GLOs
GLO #1: Self Directed Learner
Students learn expectations and daily routines of our class. At the start of each day, we review the "why" (why are we learning what we're learning), the "how" (what materials we need), and the "what" (what will I create to show what I've learned). Through these expectations and routines, students become more self-directed and take ownership over their learning.

GLO #2: Community Contributor
Our class follow 4 agreements: stay engaged, speak your truth, experience discomfort, and accept and expect nonclosure (adapted from Glenn Singleton's Courageous Conversations About Race). Students hold each other, including the instructor, accountable to following these agreements. Abiding by these agreements strengthens our learning community.

GLO #3: Complex Thinker
Students engage with challenging content every day. AP English offers students the opportunity to dive into the complexities of literature and rhetoric; thus, students strengthen their critical thinking skills daily.

GLO #4: Quality Producer
Students receive standards-based rubrics with clear guidelines for each level of proficiency (exemplary, proficient, emerging, incomplete, and no evidence). Rubrics are reviewed with each assignment, so students take ownership over creating quality products that meet or exceed standards.

GLO #5: Effective Communicator
Students engage in class discussions on a near daily basis, whether in small groups or whole class discussions. Students also participate in quarterly individual conferences with the instructor to communicate their strengths, challenges, and goals.

GLO #6: Effective and Ethical User of Technology
Students learn how to find credible sources online and through databases. Students apply their knowledge of rhetoric to online interactions.
