End of the School Year Electronic Device Return Procedures

All electronic devices loaned to students must be returned before the student officially checks out for the school year. Devices not returned at the end of the school year (before the start of summer) will become obligations on the student's account and the student is held responsible for any damage or loss until the device(s) are returned. No additional devices will be issued for the new school year until previous obligations have been cleared. Seniors must clear all obligations before a diploma and/or transcript is issued.

RETURNING YOUR DEVICE(S): Students must fill out (student & parent signature needed), this CHECKLIST ahead of time, and return it with your device(s).

Verizon Hotspot Alerts!

Verizon has been made aware that a very small number of Ellipsis Jetpack MHS900L and MHS900LS devices used for distance learning have significantly overheated and caused heat-related damage. Verizon is taking the situation very seriously and we are working with the device manufacturer to investigate the cause of these incidents.

We recognize that minimizing disruption and keeping your students connected and learning is paramount. We are committed to finding the best solution for you and your students and will contact you to provide additional information in the coming weeks.

Users should leave the device powered on while it is plugged in. When not in use, the device should be turned off, unplugged from its power source, and securely stored until you receive your replacement device and packaging to return the Ellipsis Jetpack safely.

As a reminder, and to help promote the safe operation of all devices, please follow these best practices:
  • When not in use, turn the device off and unplug it.
  • Place your device on a flat, solid and sturdy surface such as a floor or table.
  • For proper ventilation, do not use the device in a bed, sofa, chair or other soft surface, and ensure your device is not covered by a pillow, blanket or other item.
  • Keep devices near room temperature when in use.
  • Use only approved charging cables, including the cable provided.
  • Do not expose the units to extreme temperatures for extended periods of time.
  • Do not expose the unit or its battery to water or other liquids.
  • Do not drop the units and do not insert foreign objects into the battery or unit.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or concerns about the technology issued to you, please contact us for support.

Ohana Help Desk

The ʻOhana Help Desk will provide self-service and chat support for families experiencing issues connecting to HIDOE systems remotely from home. The help desk will be able to assist with connectivity-related issues (e.g. network and wifi connectivity), access and security issues, device support (e.g. devices, applications, software updates) and general IT support.

While other school districts provide tech support to families, HIDOE's help desk is statewide and was designed with a higher level of support, with phone support in multiple languages, chat support and an online portal. The help desk will be able to provide phone support in languages most commonly spoken in Hawaiʻi households – English, Hawaiian, Ilokano, Tagalog, Chuukese and Marshallese.
