Semester 1:  Modern History of Hawaii
This course is designed to give students a greater understanding of the people, places, and events that have shaped the path of our great state, Hawaii, from the 1891 to today.  This is a half credit course and requirement for graduation.

Semester 2:  Participation in Democracy

This course is designed to give the student a better understanding of the framework of government on both the national and local level. Through the course, students will gain a deeper understanding of their own political thoughts, and the thoughts of those in power. This is a half credit course and requirement for graduation.

The objectives of both courses are aligned with the Social Studies State Standards C3 Framework (socialstudies.org).  The outcomes of the C3 Framework are to enhance the rigor of the social studies disciplines, build critical thinking, problem solving, and participatory skills to become engaged citizens.

Courses are also designed to enable opportunities for Student Voice by implementing instructional approaches and techniques that are based on student choices, interests, passions, and ambitions so that students feel invested in their own learning.
