Student Services Coordinator (SSC)
Aloha, my name is Janina Amaral. I am from Makawao on the beautiful island of Maui. I graduated from the University of HAWAI'I at MĀNOA and earned my Master's Degree in Education. I enjoy spending quality time with my love, Nicholas, my keiki, and the rest of my 'ohana.
I am a dedicated Student Services Coordinator (SSC) at H.P. Baldwin High School in Wailuku, a passionate Class of 2026 Advisor, and a supportive mentor teacher. I have been with the HIDOE for over two decades.
Under the general supervision of Administration with technical assistance from the District and State Educational Resource Teachers/Specialists, I perform a variety of tasks and activities to assist in the implementation of School-Based Services for ALL students. This includes collaboration with HIDOE service providers, school social worker and psychologist, Department of Health (MFGC), DVR, Keiki and Public Health Nurse, SOH Judiciary/Maui CWS, the Surrogate Agency, outside residential programs, and many other community members as well as related service providers: behavioral specialists, occupational and physical therapists, hearing and vision resource teachers , speech language pathologist, BCBAs/RBTs etc.
My priority is to coordinate services to ALL students so that they can receive the necessary (academic, social, emotional, behavioral, physical/medical/health)support in order to access their education. I am the gatekeeper to the Comprehensive Student Support System referral process for student assistance (RFA). “A catalyst for bringing together school-based resources with targeted community resources to support students, and implement a system to address barriers to learning so all students have an equal opportunity to achieve at school.”
