Per DOE Superintendent Press Release dated 8/4/21:


"Effective Sept. 24, 2021, all HIDOE student-athletes, athletic staff and volunteers participating in school-sanctioned athletic activities will need to be fully vaccinated. Full vaccination is defined as two weeks after a second dose in a two-dose series or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine.


In the meantime, due to the state's high positivity rate, the Department is delaying the start of the fall athletic season until Sept. 24 to allow for anyone unvaccinated or not yet fully vaccinated to get inoculated."

Again, effective 8/4/21 there are no Fall, Winter, or Spring athletic activities (in-season, off-season, pre-season, etc.) through September 24th. Athletics will resume on Monday, September 27th. Athletic trainers may work with student-athletes that are currently doing rehabilitation for past/recent injuries (by appointment only) and may be scheduling additional procedures.

The Bear Bulletin gets sent to all students at Baldwin High and to parents that have signed up. If you are a BHS parent/guardian who would like to receive the weekly Bear Bulletin, please email the PCNC Parent Facilitator - Mrs. Rodrigues (Lorene_Rodrigues@baldwin.k12.hi.us). Include parent/guardian name, studentโ€™s full name and graduating class (i.e. c/o 2022) in the body of the e-mail.

Welcome to HP Baldwin High School Athletics!

All new and continuing athletes must familiarize themselves with the rules and forms that are required by the Department of Education (DOE), Hawaii State Athletics Association (HHSAA) and the Maui Interscholastic League (MIL). Please refer to these forms in the forms section at the bottom of this page. ALL paperwork and COVID vaccination confirmation must be turned in before any type of participation. Please make sure to turn in your required paperwork asap to the BHS training room (see below for details). Any student that is transferring in from another high school must also complete additional paperwork that must be handed in to the Athletic Director before he/she is cleared to participate. Please contact the Athletic Director by email if transferring into Baldwin pertains to your current situation.


All student-athletes are to report to practice with a mask and filled water bottle. Wellness checks will also be required prior to practice (coaches will explain procedures on the first day).


Athletic Participation Requirements

In order to participate in any athletic sport at Baldwin High School, the requirements are:

  • All student athletes are to be current and registered Baldwin High School students.

  • All student athletes must obtain clearance by the athletic trainers. This requires turning in the following 2 forms (forms are also located at the bottom of the page in the forms section):

-Please print both forms prior to your doctor appointment.

-Your doctor must complete his/her portion which includes signatures.

-Completed forms must be submitted to the Athletic Trainers (Kendra Anderson or Kristina Egdamin) at the BHS training room between the hours of 4-6:00 pm, Monday-Friday Be advised that only original hard copies will be accepted....no photocopies, faxes or scanned documents please.

-Please make sure that both of these forms are filled out completely and correctly. Incomplete and/or incorrectly filled out forms will be returned, with the student-athlete being unable to participate until the forms are re-submitted and cleared.

      • Some sports participation (collision and contact sports) will also require the student-athlete to take a mandatory concussion baseline test which is part of the concussion protocol. The time to take this test will be set by the trainer and to be cleared to play testing must be completed prior to the first game/meet/match.

  • All student-athletes with 1 parent/guardian must attend an All-Sports meeting. If one or both parties fail to attend this mandatory meeting, the student will not be able to participate for that season.

    • Dates of the 2021-22 FALL All-Sports meeting are as follows (All Virtual):

      • Tuesday, 10/5 @ 5:30 pm - Girls Volleyball

      • Wednesday 10/6 @ 5:30 pm - Cross Country & Bowling

      • Thursday 10/7 @ 5:30 pm - Cheer & Air Rifle

      • Friday 10/8 @ 5:30 pm - Football

      • Monday 10/11 @ 5:30 pm - LAST CHANCE for all individuals participating in Fall Sports


Fall sign-ups and try-outs are complete except for Air Rifle which end on 10/5/21. If you are interested in signing up for a Winter or Spring sport, please do so via the link located below. Sign up is just a first step...confirmation to be able to participate will only be confirmed when all necessary paperwork is turned in to the training room.

Elementary school, middle school and incoming freshman students may not participate in any Baldwin sport activity (this includes off-season and pre-season workouts) until they have graduated middle school and have been cleared and registered at Baldwin High School. This usually occurs around July 4th of every year. Once cleared, the student-athlete must be cleared by the trainers before they can participate.


Transfers and Non-Registered Eligibility

For those high school students transferring in from another high school or those high school students not registered at Baldwin High School (homeschool or charter school) additional clearance is required. The Maui Interscholastic League has a transfer policy that will be strictly enforced (see the forms section below - MIL Transfer Rule). Please email the Athletic Director (wade.hondo@k12.hi.us) to request the guidelines worksheet necessary to determine participation eligibility (additional paperwork must be submitted by parent/guardian).

If the student-athlete would like to make an appeal, the student-athlete/parent/guardian must notify the Athletic Director at least 4 weeks prior to the Executive Board Meeting and fill out the MIL Appeal Form (see the forms section below - MIL Transfer Rule Appeal Form).

The MIL Executive Board meets once (1 time) per quarter (8/25/20, 11/24/20, 2/23/21, 5/17/21).
